A Little Weary
Last night there were some processions for Easter in the village of Carrion. Big cities in Spain have a lot of these events during Holy Week. You may have seen photos of these processions. There are large groups of people who wear what I can only describe as Klansmen hoods and masks. These costumes are not meant to be evil, however. In Carrion, the people do not wear these costumes but wear black wool capes that old Spanish men routinely wear in winter. They carry big statues of religious icons. I watched for a bit but it was very cold.
Today I had a very long day from Carrion to Sahagun. I have passed the halfway point. I walked about 24 miles today--actually probably 26 due to my backtracking when I was somewhat lost. I´m a bit weak of body and spirit today. I¨d hoped to catch some of my friends here but so far I don´t recognize anyone. If I feel up to it, I might do another long day tomorrow as then I could do a short walk Sunday morning to León and be there on Easter which might be nice. This morning was very cold--I´m not sure of the temperature but I did fill up my water bottles when I left the albergue. Two hours later, one of them had started to freeze up. It was a nice walk though and like all of the days, full of beautiful scenery. It was chilly most of the day but now the sun is very strong and feels wonderful. I sat here in this town´s Plaza Mayor soaking up the sun and watching the kids play in the square. I later went back with my book and sat and read and chatted with the 80 year old men--who are always wherever the sun is in Spain. It was fun to chat with them.
That´s all for now. Beth A. --don´t know if you are keeping up with this or not...if so, Maite and Maria José´s kids are lovely.

Laura- nice post. I could feel the warmth of the sun as you wrote about the square. Perhaps you wouldn't have appreciated the lone experience sitting there if you hadn't had such cool weather on your walk. I remain so proud of you and your effort. Char
WOW! Over the half way point! I am still in a bit of awe at you taking this challenge on for yourself. I am hoping you catch up to some "conocidos" soon, but if not I am sure you will bond with someone new. Are you seeing tons of new people on the camino since it is holy week? Any troubles getting a place to sleep? Is MariSol going to be able to meet you at some point. I remember some sort of huge building in Leon that was not to be missed that was recommended by one of my old students. Maybe it was an old monastary or convent. Now it is a nice place to go for a cup of tea. Happy trails! And happy Easter! -Lisa
Hey Lisa--No Marisol won´t be able to meet up but I guess she will join us when we do this when we are 60. I have had e-mail from ¨my crowd"--they are all one day ahead of me and will try to stay two days in Leon (if the albergue allows it) and I will try to catch them there. The nice Catalan lady and her two kids are here but they go back to Barça tonight by train
Geek, my spring break with family was in the Bahamas. I spent my days lollygagging about drinking cocktails and watching the rich and sometimes famous (bumped into Larry Birkhead aka Ana Nicoles baby daddy and saw Dan Marino and Travis Tritt - I can see the tears of laughter streaming down your face}. But, all the while I was there I was wishing to be with you - experiencing the greatness of life over this fantastic week of Easter!! I love to hear of the adventures and as much as I want to have you home....stay and blog!! It's such a delight. Also, I love that you have added the word "wee" so extensively to your verbage!! I love the comments on the bars! Remember the bar in Salamanca with the sign for kids? was it kids and beers? Anyhow, those of us who really know you as I do know your days of whiskey shots are over. I miss you. Continue your greatness! I'll bet you're all skinny now! Can't wait to see those legs! Much love, LiChan
Neimbi- "Glad Pask"
I read your blog every day- you're amazing... Stay strong.
Much Love
