Nothing Says the 4th of July Like Paella

Thursday afternoon I took the train down to Valladolid to spend a few days with my friends, Maite, Maria Jose and their families. It is a really wonderful break. Like last year, when I did this, it seems so luxurious to have my own, quiet bedroom, a nice clean bathroom, a huge bath towel, use of a washing machine, and wonderful meals. Yesterday was MªJose´s daughter, Julia´s 4th birthday party. We all went to a park in the evening for a big party and picnic. There were probably about 50 people there. It was fun to see some old friends again. Today we will go to MªJose´s for lunch--Paella. Tomorrow I will take the train back up to resume my walk. I may get off the train before reaching Santander and skip some of the city walking. I think I have it all mapped out. I hope everyone as a fun and safe 4th.

Glad you got to see your friends, eat great meals, enjoy the luxury of a large towel and use of a washing machine, and possibly get some "Film" for your camera. All is well here, if "well" means staggering around in the sweltering heat, drinking beer. I have been stricken with vertigo. I am not making this up. It is much worse than it sounds, and scared the heck out of me for the first 2 days. I am now taking medications for it, of which the reported side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and excessive perspiration. Hard to tell, since I was already like that BEFORE the meds.... Saw that Barclay, of fishing tournament '94 fame, at Harris Teeter today. Thought of you and will drink a likker drink in your honor with my evening " do not comsume alcohol while using this medication" vertigo pill. Your emails / blog entries are still the highlight of my day. Carry on!

Watching Wimbledon and missing Rafa! I hope your break has been restful and fun. We saw Falmouth and Edgartown (of the MV) fireworks from Surf Drive beach last night. Can't wait to hear about your next adventures! Lots of love! XO
